Afghanistan earthquake: Toll crosses 2200, nearly 4000 injured; rescue under way

A devastating 6.0-magnitude earthquake in eastern Afghanistan has claimed over 2,200 lives and injured nearly 4,000, primarily in Kunar province. Rescue operations are ongoing amidst difficult terrain, complicated by aftershocks, including a 4.8-magnitude tremor. International aid is arriving, with India airlifting 21 tonnes of relief supplies to assist the affected population already struggling with fragile housing and decades of conflict.
