A very famous personality, Mr. Nambi Narayanan, was in the center of all. He was one of the most accomplished and renowned scientists in the Indian history and like many other students at my school, I aspired to be a successful professional like him. He was a role model, a successful aerospace engineer and then Director of ISRO's cryogenic engine project. At ISRO, He had worked with the stalwarts like Vikram Sarabhai, Satish Dhawan, and former President APJ Abdul Kalam.
Suddenly, just in a matter of 24 hours, his life changed from a highly successful professional to an infamous Indian Spy. He became a ferocious Villain from an unsung Hero. ! He was arrested in 1994 and was charged with espionage. He was subjected to a harsh interrogation methods and had to face continuous humiliation. Newspapers and Media described him as a traitor and a powerful Villain in the disguise of a scientist.
But he didn’t give up. He fought courageously and won his case against many powerful conspirators and government organizations. Finally after years of legal battle and multiple agencies investigations, he was cleared of all the charges by CBI, High Court and Supreme Court in 2018 with a compensation of 50 Lakhs. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award by the Government of India, in 2019. Furthermore, He was awarded another 1.3 Crore compensation in 2021. And now, his life story is being made as a Movie “Rocketry” that’s being released on 1st July-2022.
