Relief for minority migrants from Afghanistan, Bangladesh & Pakistan

India's Immigration and Foreigners Act 2025, effective Monday, exempts persecuted minorities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan—Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, and Parsis—who arrived before December 31, 2024, from penalties for lacking valid documents. This exemption doesn't affect the Citizenship Amendment Act's citizenship criteria.
